Harford County Company Avoided Layoffs | |
Fifteen employees at Earl E. Preston Jr. Inc. in Fallston still have their jobs thanks to the Bay Restoration Fund. But Mr. Preston says he will probably have to lay off at least some of his workers if the General Assembly continues to make cuts to the Fund.
The Fund provides subsidies to residents around the state who need to upgrade failing septic systems. That means work for numerous small septic manufacturing and installation companies, as well as electrical and other subcontractors. Preston installed 80 upgraded septic systems last year.
"In the very slow economic times, the Bay Restoration Fund was instrumental in my business being able to keep all my employees (15 individual families) from being laid off," Mr. Preston said.
